Alternatively, you can get another do-it-yourself option: Get to Vinh Dien, 10 kilometres west – the nearest town along Highway 1A. You should spend 50,000VND for a xe om ride as there is no bus service to the town from Hoi An. Standing by the road and weaving a south-bound bus to your destination is such a matter. But really, just going to Danang and getting the bus to where you want to go from there is the saner way.

Be skeptical of touts and sellers trying to put you on a bus that says Danang, Tam Ky or somewhere else, while claiming that they will stop in Hoi An if you are trying to get to Hoi An from a bus station elsewhere in Vietnam. You can be get dumped at the side of Highway 1A, a few kilometers away from Hoi An, and left to make your own way from there, is what will likely happen. Unless you see “Hoi An” written on the bus window or the ticket booth advertise Hoi An, be suspicious.
