The spectacular Cardamom Mountains, pristine and mostly untouched jungle, offer many waterfalls to cool down with a swim. The largest mangroves in Asia are located here on the coast. In addition to trekking and exploring the forest in the Cardamom Mountains, there are boat trips available to Koh Kong island and other islands in the vicinity.

The city is small with a couple of dozen restaurants in all, including just a few foreign-run restaurant and bars. Most of the restaurants are quite local and the emphasis is usually on seafood. Nightlife in Koh Kong tends to shut down comparatively early, with most places closing between 10 and midnight

There are many offshore islands nearby Koh Kong, the most interesting of which is Koh Kong Khoa, a practically uninhabited jungle paradise with seven magnificent white sandy beaches. This island is only about a forty five minute water taxi ride from shore.

The town has also become a hub for eco-tourism trips and jungle trekking. Travelers are now discovering the area’s awe-inspiring biodiversity, which includes one of Southeast Asia’s largest tracts of virgin rain forest; some 60 threatened species, including the endangered Asian elephants, tigers, Siamese crocodiles and pileated gibbons; and a virtually untouched 12-island archipelago in the Gulf of Thailand, with sand beaches and crystal-clear aquamarine waters.
