The photographic exhibition within the property is the highlight of the visit here. A small archeological is displayed here but upstairs situated the more interesting half of the museum which is dedicated to the revolutionary struggle of Vietnam and is surprisingly well-subtitled in English. Exploded and unexploded artillery pieces and ordinance are vestiges date back from the American War on display here. Being an excellent example of a typical Vietnamese wet market, Ben Tre market is an interesting place you can easily find by the river on Hung Vuong Street. Early in the morning, you can see a wide range of fresh produce including meat under lights and fish under water together with the riverfront section full of fresh local fruit and cut flowers on display. Should you need some pork, coming to the riverside near the entrance to buy a wide selection of pig heads and trotters is a good idea.

If the main aim of your visit is to take photos, you should go to the market as early as possible. The earlier you get here the more stunning pictures you will take. Sitting two on a motorbikes zip to travel around this market is the best way to explore this stunning place.

Phoenix Island

Situated only 3 km from My Tho, the Phoenix Island is widely regarded as the island of the priests of the coconut. The followers of the monks of the coconut that is a religion of Christianity and Buddhism are fed only coconut mixture. On the island Phoenix existed an abandoned monastery of the monks of the coconut where you can pay a visit.

The Phoenix Island is one of many river islands reachable by boat around My Tho. Con Tan Long – Dragon Island (the most popular and the closest destination), Con Lan – Unicorn Island (the largest island owning a tropical garden), Con Qui – Turtle Island (the smallest island) and Con Phung – Phoenix Island (The coconut monk’s temple) are the four largest islands here.

Lying between My Tho and Ben Tre, the island is best known for its extraordinary Coconut Monk. According to local legendary, the person also called Cau Hai, or Uncle Hai who lives on Phoenix Island and built his temple complex that is claimed to be a combination of Christian, Buddhist and Taoist beliefs.
