Van Thanh Temple is regarded as the most well – known spot in Vinh Long province which is also one of rare temples of literature in the Mekong Delta tours. The temple has three large – entrance gates in vaulted shape called Tam Quan with the middle door being twice as large as the others. At very first step, tourist can see on the top of the main entrance with the name “Van Thanh Mieu” warmly welcoming visitors to come to the temple.

In front of the hall of the temple, tourists immediately see the 2 – meter high stone engraved essay writings of Phan Thanh Gian and 2 other Confucian scholars to memorize the builders of the temple.

Phan Thanh Gian is regarded as the local hero who led a revolt against the French colonist and also the person who initiated to build this temple. Besides, there is a 2 – storey building in the right side of the temple called Van Xuong Cac with the first floor used for keeping precious books and for intellectuals and Confucian scholars to gather to discuss their academic and the second floor as the holly worshipping place for Van Xuong De Qua, the deity holding responsibility for the academy and examinations.

Located on the river bank, the temple is surrounded by ancient trees and tranquil lakes. The quiet and solemn atmosphere covers the whole building that is suitable for tourists to relax and enjoy the peaceful moments of the life.
